Recently I have been working hard on my "Graphic Novel" (such a fancy word). I finally found a style that I really like. I am very attracted to the childrens book style or rather layout, but I am not that much into the content anymore (there are some great ones though!) I like manga a lot. For a long time I tried to make my story a manga but it just din't work out. there was no soul and its weird but...It just didn't feel right...Like you put pasta into the ramen soup (or something like that -__-) anyway...
Thats what I came up with :D actually the page I posted before too!
Ooooh yea the utter failure...I have become lazy after my back broke from work...So I tried to use an old color thumb as panel for the page I am recently working at....Here it is :P
Okay, these past days have been so confusing... In my portfolio class, we reviewed our stuff and our teacher asked us to research the company or companies we want to work at. The complicated part came, when we had do decide on what road we want to take versus what rode brings the most money and has the most open spots. Unfortunately I like Manga and childrens books...Already it does not look to bright for books but Manga...
After talking to my teacher and doing some research, I decided I'll give it a try. The truth is, its not as dark as it seemed at first. Also I should be grateful I have the possibility to work in Europe...Well, thats not the point, I really want to work here T^T
Soo...Such is my life now, basically building a portfolio from scratch with the thing I really want to sell, the thing I love most :)
Okiee, here is what I am talking about...I'd love to do this kind of stuff! A book that reads a bit more like a manga but still has the charms and somewhat the layout of a book (or rather childrens book).
here is some of my art about 5 years ago. Its kind of cool to see that you even improved at all :P I am so glad! Another funny thing is confidence, I remember being way more confident in my "skills" than I am now...Hmmm the lack of reality is a good thing sometimes. I am getting more and more nervous as my graduation approaches in Fall.
I am currently working on a short animated film project called the Swan, its kind of -__- I might quit since I really need to prepare my prortfolio and I think I can survive without swans in my portfolio :P
My portfolio is non existent anyway T^T and I have to prepare for Fanime and AX...I planed to print a shortstory or a little little something :) We'll see...
I came across this picture somehow...Since it was a watercolor comission I thought I did not have the photo anymore... Awww I still was into Naruto back then (I still am actually O_O) I thought I could do my own manga soon. Hmmm that was the whole reason I joined art school, with the economy still bad and books dying out it looks rather bad. Borders is close to death I heared and many Manga publishers have closed their doors to submissions. I have to make a living so by now I am working on getting a job in the game industry or animation. Unfortunately money comes before dreams...
I wonder what I would tell myself 5 years back...
I'd really like to meet Masashi Kishimoto one day, I am glad his Manga is so long it really helped me when times where rough. That sounds weird but you'd be surprized how much small things can mean in these times.
It has been a while...My old computer totally died, so I got a new one...Or rather I took my sisters :P since she preferes working on a laptop...I'm not making this up!
Anyway...Bad thing...I cannot use my CS3 in windows 7....That sucks T__T I have tried many things but it just won't run! After a lot of struggle I gave up! I'll have to find another way...Stealing my sis laptop also (what an arwful person I is!).
soooo here is another sketch for my sisters story...It is the kingdom in the desert Sararohn. Merciless as deserts are there is a lot of death... but also life.
